Design Peer Review

Find the Problem on Paper Before It Shows Up on the Building

The cheapest place to fix a building envelope failure is on the drawing. Before a single material goes on the building, we review construction details and specifications to catch conflicts, gaps, and risks in the design.

We bring 60+ years of field experience to the review. We do not just check the details against the code. We check them against what actually works in the real world.

The Gap Between the Office and the Field

A detail that looks right on a drawing does not always work on a building. We have seen it hundreds of times. The specification calls for one thing. The field conditions demand another. Nobody catches it until water is coming through the wall.
Design peer review bridges that gap. It is one of the most cost-effective services we offer because the problems it prevents never become claims, lawsuits, or emergency repairs.

Design Peer Review FAQs

A design peer review is an independent examination of your construction details and specifications, before construction begins, to catch conflicts, gaps, and buildability problems in the building envelope. It is the cheapest point in a project to fix a failure, because the fix happens on paper instead of on the building.
Roofing details and specifications, waterproofing and drainage design, exterior wall assemblies, window and door installation details, flashing and transitions, air and moisture barrier continuity, material compatibility, and specification language that could create conflicts.
As early as possible, during design development or before construction documents are finalized, while changes are still inexpensive. The earlier we review, the more we can prevent.
Design peer review catches problems on the drawing, before anything is built. Quality control inspection catches problems during installation, before the work is covered up. Together they close the gap between what was designed and what actually gets built.
A fresh, independent expert who came from the trades sees what an in-house team, focused on its own drawings, can miss. Because we have investigated envelope failures after the fact, we know exactly which details fail in the field, and we catch them before they are ever built.
